Anthogyr, a people-oriented company committed to innovative implantology
This year, we celebrate our 70th anniversary! The occasion to revisit 70 years of history and events.
430 employees gathered to celebrate the group’s 70th anniversary
Committed to human values and closeness, Éric GENÈVE, MD of Anthogyr wanted “this 70th anniversary to be the occasion for all the group’s teams to come together and have a good time on a truly relaxing day”. It’s at Anthogyr Plage (Beach) that our 430 employees tried their hand at a number of activities: volleyball, surf simulator, human foosball, percussion workshop, slackline, table tennis, boules, badminton, and of course lounge chairs to relax.
This was also the occasion to preview the new showroom, the museum area, the special illustration for the 70th anniversary created by Charlie ADAM and the book dedicated to the group’s history.
Inventing the future of implantology
1947 – 2017. 70 years separate the first Anthogyr dental instrument from its last innovative solution. 20 years after its first implant sold under its name in 1997, the marketing of Axiom® Multi Level® illustrates an ambitious innovation policy aiming at opening new therapeutic scenarios for practitioners.
Thus, by making the Bone Level and Tissue Level approaches compatible, Anthogyr is offering implantologists new possibilities for the treatment of all indications, while reducing the length of treatment.
The result of 5 years of Research and Development, Axiom® Multi Level® falls within the “Prime Mover in implantology” strategy, by representing the synergy of the group’s specialities; the concept and manufacturing of implants, the CAD-CAM production of customised prostheses and the connection of the two elements via inLink®, a unique, patented lock system.
From micromechanics to implantology
The Anthogyr name is made up of “Antho” after the name of the company’s founder, Anthoine, and “gyr”, Greek for “turn”, and refers to the milling bur used in machining and to the rapid rotation of dental instruments.
Established in 1947 in Sallanches, in the Arve Valley, Anthogyr has been a family business for three generations. Since its origin, the company has had two major activities: a division dedicated to machining for industrial subcontracting and one dedicated to the manufacturing of dental instruments. Its first catalogue was translated into English, German and Italian, which showed the company’s strong ambition to export.
In 1949, Anthogyr produced all dental instruments “except the armchair” and continued to grow globally. The “30 glorious years” that followed marked a significant development of the subcontracting division that would take the company to work extensively for the automobile industry up until the 1980s.
1984 is an important date, as it marks the first steps of Anthogyr in a new industry, dental implantology. It was in this year that the company began producing the disc based implant invented by Dr Gérard SCORTECCI. Anthogyr would introduce its first implant with its own name in 1997 with Anthofit, the result of a joint effort with the practice of Dr Louis DURIF of Chambéry.
The idea of increasingly focussing on implantology would emerge in 2006 and become a reality with the appointment of CEO Éric Genève in 2007. The launch of Concept Axiom® in 2009 would represent the group's entry in the market segment of implants with high added value. The choice of this new sector of strategic activity is accompanied by an ambitious research and development policy.
Today, the design and production of implants is at the core of Anthogyr’s business. Producing in France and Luxembourg, the group has become the French reference player in this sector, whilst keeping part of its activities in the production of dental instruments and subcontracting for watchmaking, aeronautics and medical industries. In 2016, Anthogyr entered into an unprecedented partnership agreement with Straumann, a global leader in dental industry, entrusting it with the distribution of its products in China.
